How does it work?

Any donations worth $250 or more will be recognized with a receipt. You must have written confirmation from the MOTHER TERESA CHRISTIAN SPIRITIST CENTER to claim a deduction for cash, a check, or another monetary gift from the IRS. The confirmation must include the name of our organization, the date you made the contribution, and the amount of the gift. Charities are only required to provide written acknowledgment for donations over $250 you can always ask for one.

Look for the 501(c)(3) search for MOTHER TERESA CHRISTIAN SPIRITIST CENTER in the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search designation to be sure that our charity is qualified. You must donate to a qualified charitable organization to claim this itemized deduction.  Your donation is deductible the same year in which it's made.
If you give household goods or clothing, it must be in good condition.

We will be happy to deliver your tax receipt, but for that we will need your personal information (Full name / address / description of donations and value). To request the values of your donations see the classification with values in the tables below and answer your questions).

Unfortunately, if you have not requested your tax receipt on the same day of your donation delivery, we will not be able to provide it after that. As soon as the items are received they are immediately donated to the community and we will no longer have control of it to make the assessment of values. The request of a tax receipt along with the evaluation of your items are your responsibility.

For food donations or any other brand new items, we ask that you provide us with the store receipt, or it must be delivered via email to so you can receive the same amount in the tax-receipt to the IRS.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What types of donations do you accept?

First question we should ask ourselves when we are going to select a donation, is how I would like to receive my donation if I were the person who will be receiving it. Put all the strength of your love in this act of giving. When giving we must have the empathy to put ourselves in the other's shoes and reflect on what we are giving and how we are giving. At that moment we must bring to our thoughts the words of the Gospel of Jesus: "Love one another as I have loved you!"

  • What is the destination of the donations?

All donations received are donated at no cost to the Benton Harbor community. We have several registered families waiting for donations, such as mattresses, furniture, house utensils, food, clothes and shoes, among others.

  • Do you collect donations?

Unfortunately not, so we need you to schedule a date with us so we can deliver the donations in Benton Harbor. If you do not have a truck, we suggest that you rent a Uhaul and give us receipts for expenses so that we can provide the tax receipt in full.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all the mysteries and all knowledge; and though I have faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, lam nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long and is kind, charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, dot not behave itself unseemly, skeet not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. And now abideth faith, hope, charity these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
